Baroque Music at St. Luke's
St. Luke's church on Old Street in London's Barbican neighborhood was built in the early 1700's. It has been acquired by the London Symphony Orchestra and has now been remodeled into an intimate concert venue for classical music.
On Thursday, October 3 we attended a concert presented by cellist Victor Julien-Laferrière and harpsichordist Justin Taylor. The program consisted of works by Bach, Vivaldi, and others. We enjoyed hearing the music presented as it would have been back in Bach's time, with a harpsichord providing the accompaniment to Julien-Laferrière's virtuoso cello performance.

Inside St. Luke's before the concert
On our way to the concert, outside the Old Street underground station, we asked a young man for directions. He helpfully pointed out the way to Old
Street. Later, as we were leaving the concert, we saw him and a friend just outside of St. Luke's.
It turned out that he and his friend had also been at the concert. Furthermore, his friend was hosting the two musicians at his house after the concert. We spent a few minutes in conversation. Before long the two musicians joined us and we were able to convey our bravos to them personally.
Shortly after that we were having dinner at great Indian restaurant nearby. We had a table at a window looking out on the street, and he went by outside, waving to us as he passed.
