Westminster

On Saturday, September 28th, we walked across the Westminster Bridge to look at the area around Westminster Abbey. From there we walked over to Buckingham Place, home of the monarch and the focus of national and royal celebrations. At Buckingham Palace we witnessed a woman lose her cell phone in the fountain and a guy crash into the sidewalk on his bicycle. He was not seriously hurt, but I can't say the same for the cell phone.

After all of that excitement, we had dinner at an old pub in Piccadilly and walked to Piccadilly Circus, Trafalgar Square, and across the Golden Jubilee Bridge to the Royal Festival Hall, where we attended a concert of the London Philharmonic Orchestra.

Buckingham Palace

The area around Buckingham Palace and Piccadilly is one of the wealthiest neighborhoods in London. We passed De Beers diamonds, Cartier watches, etc., etc. We eventually made our way to the Lotus car showroom, where people are welcome to come inside and check out the latest offerings.

Why do they call it Piccadilly Circus?

You won't see any jugglers or clowns at Piccadilly Circus. The word circus refers to the Latin word for circle. There are other traffic circles in London called circus, such as Oxford Circus.

A new Lotus in the showroom. The cost? If you have to ask, you can't afford it.

One of the iconic double-decker buses. You can see a lot from the upper deck.
